Headway Technology Co., Ltd., together with the Harbin Engineering University, proudly introduces OceanGuardTM Ballast Water Management System based on Advanced Oxidation Processes technology, in a brave attempt to solve the POLLUTION THREAT to the GLOBAL waters.

Advanced Oxidation Process technology (AOP), applied to destruction of organisms in water, destroys the organisms through an oxidative breakdown initiated by a powerful oxidizing species such as hydroxyl radicals.

With AOP, it is possible to oxidize a larger spectrum of compounds, by the highly reactive and unselective radical pathway than by direct ozonation. The generation of hydroxyl radicals (กคOH) can be considerably intensified via various combination of oxidants, radiation and catalyst.

Hydroxyl radicals are extremely reactive and readily to attack most organic substances. As a result, the organisms are sequentially transformed to simpler organic molecules that are eventually mineralized to CO2, H2O and trace inorganic salt. The reaction rate constants between hydroxyl radicals and organic species are in the range of 108-1010 M-1S-1 M. Hydroxyl radical typically reacts a million to a billion times faster than chemical oxidants such as ozone and hydrogen peroxide. In general, due to rapid hydroxyl-radical-based oxidation reactions, AOPs are characterized by high reaction rate and short treatment times.
