Recently, OceanGuard ballast water management systems of Qingdao Headway Tech Co., Ltd had successfully win the bidding to supply ballast water management systems on Luxury Cruise Costa Romantica of Italia Costa Crociere S.p.A. This is a big breakthrough of Headway’s exploring of International market. The sales manager of Headway, Mr. Hao Jinliang, said that, in recent years, Headway has gotten very good performance due to its worldwide service net and positively International market expansion. Up to now, 70% of Headway’s products, like VDR, BWMS, are installed on foreign ship owner’s overseas ships. For a period of time in the future, Headway will continue focus on the global market, they will considering to build manufacturing bases in Japan, South Korean and Germany as well as expand their global after-sales service net, in order to let“ made in China” to have an international reputation.
 
Compared with traditional shipping companies in Europe, America, Japan and South Korean, Headway is quite young. Why could Headway realize the goal of fast developing international market? The reason must be closely related to the company’s worldwide after-sales service network. As we all know, ocean carriers are called “floating land”, they have high mobility and dispersibility. To really stand firmly in the international market, the company should provide maintenance or yearly check service in anytime, in any country. Without perfect after-sales service network, the product will lose the security, thus will be more difficult to get the confidence of the customers. Mr. Hao thinks that, only sell equipment but without service is not going to work for any shipping companies. So, in the beginning of establishment of Headway, with the aid of the parent company­―the north shipping and marine engineering Co., Ltd, Headway supplies global service and constantly perfect its worldwide service network. At the moment, Headway has 120 service sites in 52 countries all over the world, and its timely, efficient and professional after-sales service, had win the global customers. The perfect global after-sales service network applied strong support to Headway, and also enhanced the brand’s visibility and reputation, and provided a guarantee for it to create “Marine product with gold medal service”.
 
Mr. Hao considered that, the establishment of service network is the intangible assets of the company, its value can’t be measured by money, the value even more worth than the company’s fixed assets or the patent technology. Although its global after-sales service network is using the power of the parent company, Headway had further the development of the network by active in various kinds of maritime exhibitions. Since its establishment, Headway had participated in all domestic and international famous maritime exhibitions. In various exhibitions, especially in international exhibitions, Headway had meticulous planning and hosting kinds of technical seminars and parties with cooperate partners, to further propaganda, and to promote the brand popularity. To give timely propaganda and training to their agents and global cooperate partners not only strengthen the companies’ communication, improve its professional degree, but also make the company to win global customers. Hao said that, depending on the current sales mode and after-sales service network, Headway is expected to be a wal-mart in Chinese shipping field in the future.
In recent years, Headway spent most of its energy in development of International market, but at the beginning of the development Headway also met many difficulties. Mr. Hao expressed, Headway has taken attending exhibitions as the way to raise publicity and develop international market. But early, when they participated Japan Maritime Exhibition, there was no ship owner or interested agent, this once made them worried about development of international market. Facing this situation, Headway set up a representative office in Japan, and recruited a number of outstanding technical service engineers and trained them. Eventually, Headway enters the Japanese market, and successfully cooperated with Japan’s Mitsubishi heavy industry.
 
Besides, Headway had once suffered from competitors’ slanderous and libelous. It is said that, Headway had followed a German ship owner’s shipbuilding project for more than two years. At the moment when the ship owner is almost ready to choose product, the competitor of Headway sent a fax to the ship owner, said Headway is a small company, most of its registered capital is the state support funds, etc. This mislead the customer doubt Headway’s strength. Facing this, Headway choose to use its strength to fight back. The company was gradually recognized by insiders and had got attention from many risk investment fund. Up to now, there are more than 40 global fund companies intend to capital Headway, including the world famous ballast water system supplier OceanSaver company’s investor BW company.
 
Mr. Hao also gives some advices for the shipping companies who aim at developing international market. Mr. Hao thinks that, the first thing for Chinese products to enter international market is to ensure product technology and good quality. If this does not doing well, it will not only influence its own brand, the whole image of the overseas market will also be affected. The second thing is to form global after-sales service network. This is a required course for shipping companies to develop international market. At present, most of the owners who book ship projects in China are foreign owners, whether shipping company could offer perfect after-sales service is a significant condition for them to choose product. Of course, if the company currently does not have the condition to form global service network, Headway can be relied on to provide perfect service for ship owners. In this way ,we can realize a win-win result, and lay a good foundation for future development.
